Atomic Power: Ariel Atom 2
September 29, 2007

The Ariel Atom has just been renewed. It’s now the Atom 2 and even if you spend a day just examining it, you may never figure out what’s new with this one. It’s practically the same car.

Okay, though the differences are subtle, they are quite important. The new frame is wider, it gets a “saute vent” wind deflector (so you won’t end up looking like Jezza), and the new dampers are from Koni rather than Blistein. The US-Spec engine is the supercharged two-liter inline-four lifted from a Chevy Cobalt SS Supercharged. It produces 240 lb-ft and 300 hp and revs up to a redline of 7000 rpm. Power-to-weight ratio? 1hp carries every 4.9 pounds. And get this: it has a very reasonable combined mileage of 27 miles per gallon.

I’m sorry to be throwing so many numbers at you, but if you can understand the significance in these numbers, you’ll understand just how perfect this car is.

Perfection comes at a price though. I configured my own at the Ariel website and it came out to be a depressing total of $98,455. But I upgraded just about everything: suspension, brakes, drivetrain and aesthetics. Base models begin at $52,000.

Kwoon – “I Lived On The Moon”

Most wickedest music video ever! Yannick Puig did the art! The guy’s a genius!

M3 (W4NT5 0N3)

This week’s episode of Fifth Gear featured Tiff Needell driving the new M3. I love the car! And quite possibly even more than the previous model.

Jin – “I Quit”

Rap and hip-hop has taken a turn for the worse in the last decade, but the entire industry is more diluted with untalented wannabes now more than ever. I respect an artist whose lyrics hit something deeper than their twenty-two inch rims or girls with large posteriors.

Jin is an MC by all meanings to the term. His amazing reign on BET’s Freestyle Friday should amaze just about anyone. He was signed onto Virgin records and inducted into the Rough Riders, but decided to leave after a couple years after getting fed up with the hip-hop industry.

I forgot how I stumbled across his webpage, but I’m glad I did. His pieces are pretty cool. The one above is actually a commission for one of my favorite shows, Top Gear.

More artwork after the break.

Waste Of Time: LocoRoco Cocoreccho
September 20, 2007

There’s good time-wasting games and bad ones. LocoRoco Cocoreccho is horrible.

You spend all of your precious time trying to wake up these goddamned cute bastards. I mean you hate the entire game save for these cute little balls of –well the game calls them LocoRocos but I rather think of them as little smiling marshmallows that hop around and –okay, whoa there. Smiling marshmallows? Cuteness has got to come with warning labels or something.

Anyways, I have warned you against this game. It’s just not worth your seven bucks.

Placebo?: I-Doser
September 18, 2007

I-Doser is a company whose products are binaural tones designed to give one’s brain the effects of certain stimuli of which include alcohol and recreational drugs.

It’s an interesting concept. Alcohol without the liver damage, hangover etc. Marijuana without lung cancer, legality issues, addictive qualities, etc. You get the point. I finally got the time to try it out today and unsurprisingly, I felt nothing. Well, just sleepy from hearing the same beat repeat itself for what seemed like eternity. It’s not really important but I tried out “Hand of God,” their “premium” clip.

Personally, I don’t think it works and that may be the problem. You’re probably more susceptible to the product if you don’t doubt that it works. You’re welcome to give it a try. If you were somehow effected by one of the clips, please tell me. I’d like to hear about it.

She’s Back: Vanessa Carlton

Vanessa Carlton – Nolita Fairytale

The beautiful and talented Vanessa Carlton is back with her third album due out next month. It’s entitled Heroes & Theives and interesting enough it’s being produced under The Inc Records. The Inc Records is owned by Ja Rule and Irv Gotti, and it’s a hip hop label. So signing Vanessa Carlton was a interesting move. Anyways, if you’re like me, you have no idea what Nolita means. I’ve looked it up and it means North of Little Italy (in New York City). My perverted mind was thinking Lolita Fairytale the whole time.

Anyways, I love what she did at the beginning of the video. “A Thousand Miles” was a good song, but the whole travel-by-piano thing was weird.

I thought it was pretty creative. Enjoy!

Cheap Ear Sex: 2
September 12, 2007

Sony has been trying to sell poor yet overpriced headphones for years now. Ultimate Ears probably saw this and decided that they would enter the sub-$100 market with their 2‘s and kick Sony off from its podium. Ultimate Ears is known to make great earphones but their prices scare off most people. The 2’s include the technology that makes their headphones so good. They’re fairly priced at eighty dollars. But if you check Amazon, it sells for $50 (a steal if you ask me). I just got myself a pair and I absolutely love the sound quality. I’m in the process of “burning” them in so the sound should get even better in a number of days.

Isn’t it time you toss those white iPod headphones?
