Mazda2 Front

The new Mazda2 has just made its official debut at the Geneva Motor Show. At first glance, it’s already an attractive vehicle, but beside its gaudy upholstery, I can’t find anything to complain about its design. It’s shapely, sleek and hints towards a sporty nature. It’s is a perfect definition of an econocar: small size, small engine, and only the most basic of features to get you from point a to point b. I have a feeling once these cars are on the road, we’ll find that they are splendid cars. But for now, aesthetic and specifications are the only things to ponder over.

The Mazda2 is equipped with either a 1.3 or a 1.5 engine, ranging from 75 horsepower to 103 respectively. It won’t win any races, but you still might get a sensation from driving it. You will also get 43.6 mpg from the 1.3 motor. Some hybrids can’t even claim to beat that. I applaud Mazda for their commitment to produce cars that inspire a bit of sportiness to them. And now, green-friendliness.

Perfect for those looking to purchase their first car. The car should arrive on our shores sometime in 2008 with an estimated price tag of $11,000.

More photos after the break.
